Are you starting a new full‑time job?

If you are starting a new full‑time job lasting more than two weeks, you can apply for the daily allowance up until the day before your employment begins. In this case, it is recommended to attach your employment contract to your application.

If your application period becomes shorter than usual, the application form will ask for the reason. In that field, select: ‘Full‑time job lasting more than two weeks’.

In full‑time employment, the working hours exceed 80% of the maximum full‑time working hours applicable in the sector.

You can submit your application already on the last day of the application period. However, please note that if you have received adjusted daily allowance, your application can only be processed once the entire adjustment period has ended — even if your actual application period is shorter.

Remember to also notify the employment authorities about the start of your employment.

Example of Starting Full‑Time Work

Tiina has been working part‑time and has applied for adjusted daily allowance on a calendar‑month basis. Her adjustment period is one calendar month.

Tiina receives a new full‑time job for the period 15 January 2026 – 31 May 2026. She can submit her final application to us no earlier than 14 January 2026 for the period 1 January 2026 – 14 January 2026.

Because Tiina has previously received the allowance as adjusted, her application can only be processed on or after 31 January 2026, once the entire adjustment period has ended and all income affecting the adjustment is fully known. If Tiina receives part‑time salary or any other income subject to adjustment for the period 1 January 2026 – 31 January 2026, it will affect the amount of the daily allowance — meaning the income will be adjusted.

Are you starting part‑time work?

If you start part‑time work, you may be entitled to adjusted daily allowance for the duration of the employment. The requirements are that:

Step‑by‑step instructions

  1. 1

    Register as an unemployed jobseeker

Register as an unemployed jobseeker with the employment authorities no later than the day from which you wish to claim the daily allowance. If you have already been unemployed and your job search is active, keep it active and notify the employment authorities about the start of your part‑time work. You can register as an unemployed jobseeker on the Työmarkkinatori.fi website.

  2. 2

    Apply for the daily allowance

If you have already applied for the earnings‑related daily allowance from the fund and you start part‑time work, you can continue applying for the allowance in your normal application cycle even after the work has begun. If needed, we will guide you in adjusting your application cycle. Remember to report the working hours you have completed during the application period in your application, and indicate the payday. If the payday does not yet fall within the application period, report the upcoming payday or an estimate of it.

If you have not yet applied for the daily allowance from the fund, you can submit your first application after two full calendar weeks (Mon–Sun). If necessary, we will guide you to submit an application for a longer period. Remember to apply for the daily allowance within three months from the day for which you are claiming it.

  3. 3

    Send the required attachments

Send a copy of your part‑time employment contract as an attachment to your application. We receive your salary information directly from the Incomes Register, so payslips usually do not need to be attached. However, we recommend sending us your first payslip, as it may speed up the processing of your application when your part‑time work begins.

Are you starting occasional work?

If you start occasional full‑time work lasting no more than two weeks, you can apply for adjusted daily allowance for that period, just as you would when starting part‑time work. If you have already applied for the allowance from the fund, continue applying in your normal application cycle even if the work begins in the middle of the application period.

Your job search must also remain active in order for you to be entitled to the allowance during occasional work.

Report the working hours you have completed during the application period in your application, and indicate the payday. If the payday does not fall within the application period, provide an estimate of the upcoming payday. The wages from occasional work will affect the amount of your daily allowance during the period in which the payday occurs.

If the employment continues beyond the end of the application period, indicate the end date of the employment either in the additional information section of the application or by sending us a message via Otenetti.

For full‑time work lasting no more than two weeks, it is not necessary to submit the employment contract to the fund. However, if a contract has been prepared, sending it may help speed up the processing of your application.

Do you have a long commute to work?

If your commute to your new workplace is at least 2 hours (in part‑time work) or 3 hours (in full‑time work), you may be entitled to a mobility allowance.
